India’s Last Natural Dyeing Communities
LOCATIONS
Collaborators and Artisans
Eighty years ago, India led the art of natural dyeing, deeply tied to land, water, and indigenous knowledge. Today, this tradition fades, replaced by cheaper synthetic dyes. This photography project documents the last communities preserving this eco-friendly craft. Through my lens, I’ve captured artisans who live by nature’s rhythms, sourcing dyes from plants, roots, and minerals like indigo, turmeric, madder, and mustard seeds—each rich in cultural and ecological history.
